The 14th Suicide Bereavement UK (SBUK) international conference, in collaboration with the Postvention Trust CIC, is due to take place on September 25th, a one-day event at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester.
The day itself will include speakers and workshops as part of the programme, which is aimed at anyone who comes into contact with people bereaved or affected by suicide, including the Armed Forces community, bereavement specialists, HR staff, mental health professionals, celebrants, clinicians, pharmacists, faith leaders, funeral directors, prison staff and many others.
Speakers include Barry McGale, senior suicide prevention consultant and trainer at SBUK, as well as professor Nav Kapur from the University of Manchester, professor John Gibson from The Canmore Trust and Bishop Richard Ayiku.
Conference workshops include Surviving and Thriving After Loss by Suicide, School-Based Suicide Prevention Strategies and Best Practice for Gathering Suicide Lived Experience, as well as Bloody Hell, an interactive storytelling workshop designed to provide people with the chance to explore language and modes of expression relating to menstrual health.
Other topics under discussion include:
– Suicide and self-harm
– Autism and suicide
– Losing a son to suicide
– The menopause and suicide
– Suicide in prison
Registration for in-person attendance is £180 (plus a booking fee and VAT), while livestream audiences can register for £99. There is a 20 per cent reduction for students.
There are also a number of free places to attend the international conference and SBUK is now calling out to both the general public and organisations for help in providing financial assistance and adopting a place so that those bereaved by suicide or professionals working with the bereaved are able to attend where they might not have been able to otherwise.
