Suicide Bereavement UK’s (SBUK’s) 14th International Conference – Suicide Bereavement: Leave No-One Behind – is to be held at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester on September 25th, in collaboration with the Postvention Trust CIC.
With many speakers in attendance and workshops to be put on, a range of different topics will be under discussion, including, suicide and self-harm, responding to someone in crisis, the impact of losing a husband to suicide, suicide clusters, the menopause and suicide, suicide prevention in Ghana, losing a son to suicide and suicide prevention in schools and colleges.
There are fees for attendance in place, set at £180 for in-person visitation and £99 to livestream the event, while students can benefit from a 20 per cent reduction associated costs.
However, SBUK is also now calling on members of the general public and organisations alike to consider adopting a place at the conference to ensure that people who might not otherwise be able to attend can be there on the day.
A number of free places are available via the Alexander McDonnell Bursary, which was set up in memory of the brother of SBUK founder and managing director Dr Sharon McDonnell, who died by suicide.
Last year, 40 free places were funded for the international conference, but because of the economic climate, financial constraints and the cost of living, bursary requests for the 2025 event far exceed those seen in previous years.
As such, SBUK is asking for help in adopting places that can be given to people bereaved by suicide or to professionals who work with the bereaved and who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Those who do fund places will be acknowledged in the conference programme, with many dedicating their act of kindness to the memory of someone they themselves lost to suicide.
The cost of adopting a place is £180 for an in-person ticket and £99 for livestream attendance.
