The Diary of Dr. Sharon McDonnell

Aged 53 and 3/4

2nd August, 2020

Dear Diary

‘The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats it’s most vulnerable members.’

Mahatma Gandhi

My mum aged 82 and only 4 foot 8 inches, is one of the 2.2 million people who were advised by the government to stay at home, due to Covid-19, as she is classified as clinically extremely vulnerable by the NHS.

Yesterday was a significant day for my mum, as it was the day it was deemed safe enough, for her to venture out and join in simple activities. Her little red shiny scooter was ready for action, after many months of being abandoned in the garage gathering dust.  Armed with her handbag, she welcomed the long-awaited day, ready to purchase a few items that might take her fancy.  Welcome back mum, we’ve missed you. xx
