RTS – Belfast – June 7th 2022

Can I just say again, the delivery was superb, with the key strength being both trainers in my eyes.

The way in which they described their own personal experience of suicide was just so powerful and will stay with me a lifetime. As a result my interactions and response at any future death by suicide will be directly as a result of the RTS training and the detailed insight they provided.

This training is a must for any emergency service provider and is a credit to you all!

RTS – Belfast – June 6th 2022

The training was emotional. The Trainer created a safe space for us to explain our thoughts in the group activities. I am able to signpost persons to local organisations as additional support and respond to risk. I feel this training has built on my knowledge about prevention of suicide.

Thank you to the Trainers.

RTS – Belfast – June 6th 2022

“Responding to Suicide is the first time that statistical based information concerning suicide has been presented to serving officers in a way that is matter of fact, clear and operationally relevant. It allowed me to see, and more importantly gave me the time, to understand the impact suicide has had on our community, our families but also on “us” I felt considered and that the hidden sacrifices I have made in working with people, were important. I felt like someone had really taken the time to try and understand what I had went through and the toll it had taken on me and my family. The heart of it was “ How can we do this better?” It was very validating and I felt lighter and more connected with my colleagues as a result. Thank you.“

RTS – Belfast – June 6th 2022

Once again, thank you sincerely for a wonderful programme. From start to finish, I found it to be extremely informative, educational, heart-rendering yet so very necessary for front line operational officers and indeed anyone who has the potential to come into contact with anyone else affected by suicide. I can say with certainty, it is one of the most interesting and helpful courses I’ve participated in.

RTS – Belfast – June 7th 2022

As a clinician of 30+ years I have responded to or dealt directly with those bereaved by suicide many many times. It was always the type of call I dreaded because I felt ill equipped to be able to deal with the questions and raw grief that always came from the relatives present or who would arrive on scene. Sorry for your loss seemed so inadequate at these calls and many times I am ashamed to say I had no words and maybe just hugged the relatives.

This course and especially the delivery of it by Angela Lee and Sharon, has made me stop and think about how to better deal with the scene, improve my communication with the bereaved relatives, and the impact that we as responders have long term with our actions and words on those who have suffered loss by suicide. I would highly recommend this training to all those who respond to death by suicide calls. No matter how much experience you think you have you will learn something new and will be better equipped to respond to those bereaved.

RTS- Hampshire Police – May 27th 2022

I am an experienced serving front line officer and I gained a lot from this training day. The lived experiences of those providing the training made it extremely engaging. I think this should be rolled out to all police officers during initial training. I would have benefited from having it many years ago.

RTS – Hampshire Police – May 27th 2022

“The RTS Training gave me the insight and learning to proactively support families managing suicide bereavement, it highlighted to me the importance and potential of introducing Suicide Family Liaison Officers across Hampshire. The trainers lived experience of suicide was fundamental to the training and very impactive”

With very many thanks.

RTS – Hampshire Police – May 27th 2022

As an operation Police Officer and a supervisor, my team and I often attend incidents relating to mental health crisis, in the demanding workplace staff are also facing situations of personal crisis which as supervisors we have to manage and support which is difficult with little or no formal training in this complex area.

I was quietly confident I knew and understood enough to equip me to do a good job, however, after this training event I knew so much more and quickly admitted I didn’t know as much as I thought I had. The training presentations, lived in experiences shared, literature and signposting to information was top class. This was a really empowering event and I would highly recommend anyone who has the opportunity to attend one of these events to engage with it. You will come away wiser and confident to look at and deal with any situation in a far more proficient manner.

Thank you to the team, with Mental health such a high profile focus it’s good to know that there are organisations out there that can help steer us towards better knowledge and understanding

RTS – Hampshire Police – May 27th 2022

The course was excellent and the feedback from those attending has been great and the consensus was that it has improved understanding of what is a very difficult issue, that people in general including police officers shy away from. The course was expertly managed by the trainers who were able to create an informal and relaxed atmosphere which assisted in helping the people in the room share their own experiences. This was very important as not only for those telling their stories but also a great deal of learning comes from those honest and open conversations in the room and listening and learning from others lived and professional experiences. We hope to roll the course out wider organisation in the coming months

PABBS – Pennine Care, Manchester – May 2022

Fab training provided, very informative and knowledgeable has been able to enable me to share information with our liaison practitioners and gave me the information which I was able to put together for the practitioners which in turn enables them to support individuals who are in need of support from bereavement by suicide and able to signpost them for further support so gaining this knowledge was massive and extremely helpful for our Liaison team.

The training also provided a safe space to discuss this very sensitive subject.

The day went to fast thank you

PABBS – Edinburgh – May 17th 2022

I found the training timely, inspiring and useful. As a celebrant, I’m well aware of the stigma that still surrounds suicide and the difficulty we have with talking about it. It hasn’t been part of my direct experience as a chaplain and a member of the listening service but it’s only a matter of time before it does, and I now feel much better prepared to deal with it and the effect it will have not only on those directly involved but the wider community around it.

I wish you well in your work.

PABBS – Edinburgh – May 17th 2022

I really enjoyed the PABBS Training on Tuesday. I found it interesting -both the handouts and the delivery/content of the training were extremely informative. Both Sharon and Angela were very friendly and approachable and by sharing their own lived experiences it made the training feel a lot more personable than just learning about statistics etc. I have learnt skills and knowledge that will be invaluable to my role and would highly recommend this training for anyone working within the Mental Health Field.

PABBS – Edinburgh – May 17th 2022

I found the course "Postvention Assisting those Bereaved By Suicide (PABBS) ONE DAY Training" very informative and good. The course was professional, and it was very encouraging to meet others who work to support relatives and can share experiences and views. Teachers' experience of insight and interest in the subject was one of the biggest advantages of the course.

PABBS – Edinburgh – May 17th 2022

The fact that both trainers bring their lived experience of how suicide affected them and their families made it easier for me to talk about my experience. I found the training very informative and it raised many questions for me. Coming from an ethnic minority community in Scotland we are as a community still not in a place where the issue of Suicide is discussed or even acknowledged. It also highlighted how much this kind training is needed for grassroots organisations that work with ethnic communities. I was only able to access this training through Edinburgh University Chaplaincy who funded the training.

PABBS – Newcastle – May 3rd 2022

‘My name is Lisa and I took part in the PABBS training on the 3rd May. I have been a mental health professional for over 10 years now, working in adult acute care, and have been in my current role as a Street Triage Clinician for approx. 2 years. Throughout my career and personal life, I have been continuously exposed to people ending their life by suicide and also worked very closely with people who are struggling with bereavement from suicide.

I found the structure of the day very engaging and the resources will certainly be something I will take forward in my role, as signposting to appropriate services is a huge part of what I do now, as effective signposting is crucial.

I found the trainers amazing in their approach from the outset, and they managed to deliver what is a very difficult and emotive subject with passion. They were very open and engaging and supported everyone throughout the day.

I really think this training could make a huge difference in our field and would recommend it to anyone.’

Thank you for putting together such an amazing course with all of those involved

PABBS – Carmarthen – April 14th 2022

I found the training event incredibly beneficial. It was thought provoking, informative and provided a safe space for colleagues to discuss openly and share experiences. The trainers were brilliant hosts and trainers; it was a privilege to hear their stories. The training provided a safe space for some very open and honest conversations, which were powerful in terms of getting people to think differently around the language we use about suicide and the whole assessment process.

Thank you very much

PABBS – Manchester – April 5th 2022

This Postvention [PABBS] evidenced-based training is the best around and delivered on everything it promised. Well-paced, with knowledgeable facilitators, the training offered participants exactly what was promised. Equipping us with the skills to confidently support individuals who have sadly been bereaved by suicide.

PABBS – Manchester – April 5th 2022

“I am currently the new Family Liaison Officer for MPFT and recommended to join the PABBS training. Within my role I will be supporting bereaved families that have lost loved ones through suicide. The PABBS training course I attended was very informative and has given me the tools to feel more confident to support families through an extremely difficult time. The training gave a valuable insight into the lives of those affected by suicide and was driven by evidence based theories along with real life stories. The training was delivered brilliantly by Liz and Angela.”

PABBS – Manchester – January 2022

Having recently joined an organisation focused on Bereavement by Suicide I was glad to be enrolled on the PABBS course. I have trained and worked in Bereavement both privately and as a volunteer. This course for me not only enhanced my learning but added to my confidence working in the Bereaved by Suicide sector. The course was delivered sensitively in a warm and friendly environment safely. The subject matter was clear and presented professionally by caring individuals. It was amazing to listen to others experiences and share the knowledge in the room. I would recommend anybody working in this sector to look at this course and understand the benefits.

PABBS – London – March 2022

I attended the March 2022 PABBS training event in London where Angela and Lee facilitated the day with compassion, sensitivity, courage and openness all of which enabled rich discussion and collaborative thinking throughout. I came away from the day inspired and humbled but most notably equipped with deeper insights into postvention support which I hope can be integrated into the University community I currently work in.
