I cannot recommend the PABBS course enough. Informative, sensitive and inspiring, the course leaders were excellent and have real experience with dealing with suicide bereavement. I also met some wonderful people on the course from all walks of life and experiences. It gave me a lot to think about and will help me better serve the families I deal with.

PABBS training – Manchester – December 2019
I really enjoyed the course , it was interactive and thought provoking , not just in relation to how we need to work with the family and friends of those people who have ended their lives, but especially the impact it has on staff , and ways to support these staff , acknowledge that staff will be impacted by these acts. Would seriously recommend the training to other staff , and I plan to look at how I can change my practice to support staff.

PABBS training – Manchester – December 2019
I attended the PABBS Suicide Bereavement Training in Manchester in December 2019. I work for CAMHS in an Assistant Psychologist position and my work brings me into contact with young people who are bereaved by suicide. This training allowed me to hone the skills I didn’t realise I already had, and taught me new skills that help me gain a greater understanding of bereavement by suicide in order for me to pass these skills on to the young people I work with. Highly recommend it to everyone.

PABBS training – Manchester – December 2019
This training provides great insight into the grief process and the complexities of supporting someone bereaved by suicide. The trainers have an incredible amount of knowledge about the subject area and provided a safe, comfortable space to explore thoughts and feelings of those that attended in a contained, well-paced way. I enjoyed the opportunity to hear perspectives of fellow trainees who were from lots of different clinical backgrounds and feel that this was an invaluable part of the training.

PABBS in-house training – Sunderland – November 2019
I found the PABBS training extremely useful, it was emotive and very engaging. The training increased my understanding of postvention support and facilitated me to consider ways in which we can further develop this within my area of practice.

PABBS in-house training – Sunderland – November 2019
As you are aware I attended PABBS training on Friday. It was very useful for those staff who currently, or might be in a position to, provide a postvention response to families and friends and bereaved by the suicide of one of our service users, or indeed our service users who are bereaved by suicide. The training offers a valuable insight into evidence based techniques and approaches which bereaved individuals have found beneficial. Following the training I would feel more confident offering postvention to bereaved individuals and it would be more likely that these interactions would be helpful and supportive. If more clinicians can access this training this will further enhance the postvention response our services are able to provide.

I was feeling very excited about attending the PABBS suicide bereavement training prior to coming. The prospect of guidance and tools to help when meeting with people who have been bereaved by suicide felt positive. The content and the delivery of the training by both Sharon and Angela was amazing. There is nothing better than learning from people who have lived experience of the topic and are enthusiastic about helping bring about change. The content was real, from people who have lived it, with their advice of what helps the most. I left feeling motivated and less frightened of how I would react when I was faced with a postvention situation. You must have decided to use the secret shopping scheme because on my first day back to work a gentleman who had been bereaved by suicide in August was one of our assessments for the day. I enthusiastically prepared the resources that I know knew were the most meaningful and had no worries as I left to see him. The session went well, the gentleman gratefully received the information I provided and seemed to benefit from just being heard. Thank you for a great training, I am telling every one of my colleagues to attend when you come again.

I thought the training was fantastic, it made me feel much more confident in supporting those bereaved by suicide going forward. Unfortunately it is not uncommon for people I am working with to be affected by suicide or families to be affected by bereavement – particularly by drug overdose, which can have a similar devastating effect on families to suicide. Before the training it has been something I have felt quite uncomfortable with and felt I may be intruding in on grieving families. The PABBS training has shown me that offering support is not an intrusion and I have gained both confidence and knowledge which will help me to offer more effective support. I also appreciated being made aware of the resources and support out there which I will utilise, the manual issued in the training has been particularly helpful.

Firstly I just want to say thank you for delivering the training. You are both (Sharon & Angela) very inspirational and my colleagues and I have talked at length about the PABBS training and how we can implement this within our locality. We are taking forward postvention within our suicide and risk mandatory training for all staff and I have shared the “twenty minutes of your life” training link across services as well as the hub of the hope. Sometimes you attend training and have to think about what you can share with your colleagues but I wanted to share everything for today. This training is something that I think everybody should attend from a personal and professional level and should be shared far and wide. We are hoping to attend further conferences so we can really champion taking this really important work forward. You really have created a few monsters in CNTW which we thank you for.

I had no expectations of the training however if I did they would have been massively exceeded! It was thought provoking, very informative and expertly delivered. The passion, knowledge and experience of the facilitators was vast and varied and I felt like I learned a lot to take away and start to introduce into my practice. We have already discussed ways in which we can improve and build upon our postvention work across the locality. I highly recommend this training for all professionals working in health care.

Great training provided by an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and supportive team. They created a really relaxed and supportive environment and provided us with the knowledge to go away and think about how we can best utilise the information learnt to support those bereaved by suicide in our professional areas. It was nice to meet so many other enthusiastic individuals, from a multitude of professions, all working towards the same goal.

I found the course very informative , It was presented by tutors with excellent practical and theoretical knowledge. I have already put the learning into practice In being able to provide early support and signposting with greater confidence. Next week I will be doing a short presentation to the Trust Learning and Development group to discuss whether there are any ways of altering our systems to make early intervention (postvention) available in a more co-ordinated way.

I recently organised for the (PABBS) team to come into the Barracks and provide some training for welfare and health staff here for Military personnel. The trainers are fantastic and so knowledgeable with a good mix of personal and professional experience, I didn’t know what to expect from the training or how this would be received in a military context but the team made it so applicable to our environment and everyone got a lot out of the day with a lot of transferrable skills for each of their areas of work.

I found the Evidence based suicide bereavement training extremely useful, the course is tailored to suit open and honest discussion amongst the delegates, taking examples from the lived and personal experiences. The training develops understanding of the bereavement process following suicide and I feel that the session would be of great benefit for anyone who provides any welfare or emotional support within their profession. The Army has an excellent welfare system in place, this training would provide essential knowledge and skills to welfare practitioners and I highly recommend the course.
