This document has been designed to guide health and well-being boards, commissioners etc to understand why caring for those bereaved by suicide (termed as postvention) is a key aspect of local suicide prevention. It also informs the reader how suicide affects individuals, families and communities and the importance of developing and delivering postvention support locally. Dr. Sharon McDonnell and Barry McGale from Suicide Bereavement UK were members of the advisory team, which developed this document.
